It was a full blown Warrior invasion in Portland, Oregon
this past weekend. 9 Westcoast Warrior teams made the trek
down the I-5 to Indoor Goals Arena in Beaverton for the
NARCh Regional Tournament held March 11-13.
Throughout
the weekend there were many familiar faces in the crowd
and on the rink making Indoor Goals feel like a home away
from home for everyone.
Warrior
teams competing included:
- Atom
(8&under): WC Warriors 96, WC Warriors White
- Mite
(10&under): WC Red Alert Warriors, WC Warriors White,
WC Warriors 96
- Squirt
(12&under): WC Warriors Red, WC Warriors White
- Peewee
(14&under): WC Warriors Red, WC Warriors White
- Bantam
(16&under): WC Warriors
After
61 games over 2.5 days of roller hockey action, the dust
settled and 4 Warrior teams claimed the Gold Medals and
2 Warrior teams came home with the Silver Medal.
In
the first final of the day, the Squirt Red team matched
up against the Mt.Hood Thunder for the 2nd time that day.
Mt. Hood jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead. This seemed to
wake up the Red team as they answered back quickly and often
enroute to a 9-1 victory.
The
2nd final was a rematch between both Warrior Atom teams.
Although battling hard throughout the contest, the White
team came up short against a very talented and determined
96 team. The 96's showed their practice and hardwork continues
to payoff as they skated to victory. A great first tournament
appearance for the boys & girls on the White team.
Next
up was the Bantam Final, featuring Derek Brewerton's dedicated
group against another Langley team, the Nitro. This game
was also a rematch of a Saturday game between these two
teams. The Warriors proved too much for the Nitro as they
continued their dominant play from the weekend and came
away with a 6-3 victory.
The
Mite Division saw all 3 Warrior teams advance to the Playoffs.
First up was the White team versus the Red team in the Semifinal
game. The Whites came out hard and gave the Red team all
they could handle. The Red team played a solid game and
skated to a hard-fought 3-0 win. The Reds moved on to face
the 96's in the Final game. A rematch of a great game a
week ago, this game featured two teams battling hard for
2 periods with neither team giving an inch to the other.
The Reds 2-1 victory was a testament to how even these two
teams were.
Some
other great performances were put forth by Warriors teams:
In
Squirt the White team was minutes away from securing a berth
in the Finals when a shot rang off the crossbar that would
have given the team a 2-goal lead. However, as we've seen
in roller hockey so often, that missed opportunity resulted
in a chance at the other end for Mt.Hood Thunder and they
scored the tying goal and got the eventual winner moments
later.
In
Peewee, both the Red and White teams had some success but
ran into a couple of hot teams from Central Oregon and Indoor
Goals that knocked both Warrior teams out of Playoff contention.
This
was a great tournament experience for the Warriors as we
saw many players get their first opportunity to play in
a Rep tournament and experience their first road trip.
GREAT
JOB BY ALL WESTCOAST WARRIOR TEAMS IN PORTLAND!
