WC Warriors
Atom
Division:
This
tournament featured the first ever appearance of the WC
Warriors Cubs. This team of players born in 1998 is the
our first ever Cub division team. This was their first
tournament experience and they stepped in to play against
the big boys - THE 8 YEARS OLDS!!!
The
Cubs started out with a nailbiter against the WC Warriors
White Atom team. The game was well played by both teams,
and the White team skated away with a narrow 1-goal win
to start the tourney. Both Warrior teams in this division
skated hard all weekend and showed their hard work is
paying off. The 2 teams met again in the Semi-final and
another GREAT GAME was played by both teams. This time
the Cubs came out on top with a 2-1 victory.
In
the Championship Game, the Cubs faced a formidable NS
Zulu team from North Vancovuer that had gone through the
round-robin undefeated without allowing a goal against.
The Cubs ("Wee Warriors") however, were up to
the challenge and both teams put on a fantastic effort
for the sold out crowd.
The
Cubs managed to break the shutout string of the Zulu team
but were down by 3-1 late in the game. A late goal by
the Warriors made it close but the team couldn't get the
equalizer.
A
great start to tournament play by the WC Warriors Cubs!
The WC Warriors White team showed that they were right
there with the two top teams as they missed out on the
Final game by a goal. They served notice as a team to
be reckoned with at the upcoming Pacific Coast International
Tournament.
Mite
Division:
The
Mite Division saw 3 Warriors teams competing.
After
2 tough losses to open the tournament, the White team bounced
back in their final game to convincingly defeat the Mt.Hood
Thunder and finish the tournament on a strong note.
The Red team finished 2nd in Pool A while the 96 team finished
2nd in Pool B as both teams advanced to the Semifinals.
Crossing over to face the 1st place teams in the opposite
pools, both teams were in for some tough competition.
The
Red team came out hard and proved too much for the Wild
A team as they claimed a 5-1 victory. On the other rink
the 96's played a solid game and squeaked out a 4-3 win,
setting up a rematch of the Topcat Tournament Final between
the Red's and the 96's.
In
the Final, the Red team proved too strong for the younger
squad and skated to a decisive win.
Squirt
Division:
3
Warriors teams took the floor in Squirt.
The
White team faced stiff competition in losing to the eventual
runners-up, Western Phantoms, and eventual 3rd place finishers,
NS Zulu. A better game was played against the Wild B team
as they lost by a narrow margin.
The
Red team went 1-1-1 in the round-robin before coming up
against the tough NS Zulu team in the Quarterfinals. The
Zulu got some revenge over the Red team that knocked them
out of Topcat a few weeks earlier.
The
Black team claimed 1st in their pool with 2 wins and a tie
and entered the playoffs as the #3 overall seed. A solid
win over the Mt. Hood Thunder and a nailbiter versus the
NS Zulu set up the Final against the Western Phantoms.
The
Phantoms came into the Final riding a huge wave of momentum
- both of their 2 previous playoff games were won in sudden
death overtime on goals by Tournament Top Scorer Brett Bulmer
(THIS GUY CAN PLAY!!!)
After
opening up a 3 goal lead in the Finals, the Warriors Black
were scrambling late and the Phantoms came back to tie and
send the game to overtime again. Off the opening draw in
OT, Andy Evans had a strong forecheck to cause a turnover.
Dustin Lebrun swooped in and sniped a backhand shot to the
far corner giving the Warriors the Squirt Division title.
Peewee
Divison:
12
teams came to battle for the Peewee title including 4 Warriors
teams.
The
White team skated hard but faced 3 eventual playoff teams
and came away winless.
The
Red team put up 2 wins to advance to the quarterfinals.
The
Black team went 3-0 to claim the #3 seed while the Selects
team also went 3-0 to claim the #1 playoff seed.
The
Reds came up short against a solid Indoor Goals Titans team
in the quarters while the Blacks and Selects moved on to
the Semifinals.
The
Selects continued to roll as they skated into the Finals
while the Blacks came up short against a talented Wild A
team.
The
Championship saw the Selects patient, controlling game prove
to be too much for the Wild A and the Selects Warriors took
the Peewee Final 3-1.
Senior
Division:
The
Revision Warriors had a solid lineup featuring Team Canada
goalie, Scott Humphrey, and NARCh Pro's, Kirk French and
Colin Sharp.
After
going through the round-robin in 1st place with a 4-0 record,
the team faced an equally talented WC Hyper team in the
final. This game was a rematch of last year's tournament
championship which saw Hyper come out on top.
A
very tight checking game saw neither team willing to give
an inch before the Revision Warriors claimed a very close
1-0 victory.
Some
other great performances were put forth by Warriors teams:
In
Bantam, the WC Warriors and the Selects Warriors both played
well and advanced to the Semifinals before coming up against
2 strong teams, Wild Grizzlies and TOUR Rage.
GREAT
JOB BY ALL WESTCOAST WARRIOR TEAMS IN LANGLEY!
